Competition Weekends

Not everyone enjoys or desires the competitive aspect of tennis. The enjoyment and challenge of rallying with a friend and getting exercise are just two of the many benefits of tennis!

However, for those who want to become a better overall tennis player, I believe that competition, whether in matches or tournaments, is a key component. Lessons or other instruction and hitting with various people are important, but we also have to learn to compete. The stress and pressure of competition
tests our technique, mental fortitude, and fitness.

With the help of other local instructors, I have organized instructional play on Sundays at Skagit Valley College. Now in its third year, the concept is for players to play singles and/or doubles sets with some instruction during the sets. We may rotate or change after a set or about 30-45 minutes depending on the players.

Currently, this program is offered in the late fall and through winter, leading into the girls high school season. We'll plan to run it almost every weekend on Sundays through February and players will be able to sign up as their schedule allows. This is not a drop-in program since we are trying to line up matches and
have an even number of players.

Get out and compete!
